Surf lifesavers to honour those who have served

2nd October, 2007
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has announced Australian Government funding of $2,805 to the Noosa Heads Surf Lifesaving Club Inc to help commemorate those who have served in the defence of our country.

Mr Truss said the Noosa Heads Surf Lifesaving Club would receive the funds to restore and update the Honour Roll at the Club to reflect all wars and conflicts, and to install two flagpoles at the front of the club, one to fly the Australian flag and the other the Surf Lifesaving Club.

Mr Truss said the grant has been approved as part of the Australian Government’s commemorations program, Saluting Their Service.

“Saluting Their Service encourages community participation in commemorative activities honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have served Australia in wars, conflicts and peace operations,” Mr Truss said.

“The NHSL Club is to be congratulated on its initiative and I am pleased the Government has been able to support this project.”

Mr Truss said ex-service and community organisations across Australia had successfully applied for Saluting Their Service grants. Projects supported include the restoration of community war memorials, displays of wartime memorabilia and commemoration of significant wartime anniversaries.
