School Chaplaincy Programme — Round Two

12th October, 2007
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss today announced that 12 more local schools will each receive an Australian Government grant of up to $20,000 per year for three years, under the second round of the National School Chaplaincy Programme.

Mr Truss said the important funding will assist the schools to provide pastoral care, and support student wellbeing and spiritual development.

“School chaplains are already making valuable contributions to many school communities nationally. There has been an enthusiastic demand for this Australian Government Programme, with nearly 3,000 schools applying for funding in 2007,” Mr Truss said.

“The Coalition Government has invested $165 million over three years to make vital chaplaincy services available to schools across the country. Through Round Two of the Programme, 1,238 schools will receive grants totalling $69.2 million. This brings to a total 2,630 schools which have been granted funding under the Programme.

Mr Truss said the schools to receive funding in round 2 of the programme are:
Noosa District State High School Cooroy
St Thomas More Primary School Sunshine Beach
Noosa Christian College Cooroy
Noosa Flexible Learning Centre Tewantin
St Teresa's Catholic College Noosaville
Maryborough Special School Maryborough
Cherbourg State School Cherbourg
Murgon State School Murgon
Maryborough Central State School Maryborough
Murgon State High School Murgon
One Mile State School Gympie
Maryborough West State School Maryborough.

“The Chaplaincy programme, announced by the Prime Minister last October, will help many schools access these services for the first time, as well as enabling the expansion of many existing chaplaincy services.”
