$131 700 for AIEM to help find jobs

12th October, 2007
Job seekers and employers in the manufacturing industry in Gympie and Maryborough will benefit from a targeted training and employment programme conducted by the Australian Industry Engineering Manufacturing (AIEM) Network, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

Mr Truss announced Australian Government funding of $131,700 through the Employer Demand Demonstration Project initiative for the project, which collaborates with the manufacturing industry to train and place 120 job seekers into work.

“AIEM will conduct a pre-employment course focusing on the provision of industry skills, such as hand and power tools, machine operation, and welding,” Mr Truss said.

“Through consultation with local Job Network members, 120 candidates will be selected, trained and placed into jobs in the manufacturing industry. Each candidate will receive three weeks of work experience as part of this programme.”

“Providing well trained, job ready staff to the manufacturing industry is a vital part of building a sustainable industry” Mr Truss said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for job seekers in the region to become part of this growing industry.”

“We expect very strong employment outcomes from this programme. It is a great example of how industry, PAGES (Providers of Australian Government Employment Services) and all levels of government can work together to ease labour shortages and provide new career opportunities for job seekers.”

Australian Industry Engineering Manufacturing Network Co-operative General Manager Richard Krause said that “the manufacturing industry offers an extensive range of job and career opportunities throughout Queensland.”

“There are manufacturing businesses all over Queensland screaming for more staff. By working with them we are able to identify the skills that they require of new staff and can use this information to give job seekers a start in this vital industry,” Mr Krause said.

The programme provides seed funding for innovative recruitment, employment and retention strategies to increase workforce participation of people with disabilities, parents, the mature age, and the long term unemployed.

PAGES and job seekers are encouraged to register their interest in this programme by emailing Mr Richard Krause of Australian Industry Engineering Manufacturing Network Co-operative at richard@aiement.com.
