WIDE BAY CANNOT AFFORD WALL TO WALL LABOR

14th October, 2007
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, said today the choice the people of Wide Bay will have on November 24 will be between the Coalition’s sound economic management and the risk of an inexperienced Labor government with unfettered power.

Mr Truss said the Federal Coalition Government has delivered unprecedented economic growth and low unemployment rates to Wide Bay and created new opportunities for local families.

Under the Coalition, more families have jobs, more families in regional Australia have access Commonwealth Government services, more families have child care and choice in education and more Australians are able to look forward to a retirement with dignity.

Labor has never been able to manage an economy and the record of State Labor Government’s in delivering health, education, roads and public transport, reliable water supplies and properly resourced ambulance and police services is a warning to all about the way in which a Rudd Labor government would behave.

If Labor were to be elected, there would be Labor Governments in every State and Territory and the Commonwealth. There would simply be no checks and balances and 70% of a Rudd Cabinet would be ex-trade union officials.

Mr. Truss said the people of Wide Bay know what it is like when a Labor Government has too much power. This election will provide an important opportunity for Wide Bay voters to say “No” to the Traveston Crossing Dam and “No” to undemocratic forced Council amalgamations.

Mr. Truss said “I expect this to be a difficult election campaign especially with significantly changed new electorate boundaries. While I will be pointing to the results that I have been able to achieve for Wide Bay, I want to keep our community moving in the right direction and to ensure our region has a strong voice when the important decisions are made.”

“This is a fast growing area that needs a large slice of funding for new services like health, aged care, education and roads. We want to protect our lifestyle and environment while providing new opportunities for those who live here.”

“Wide Bay’s working families just can’t afford to risk Kevin Rudd in The Lodge, Wayne Swan’s hand in their pocket, Julia Gillard giving the workplace back to the Unions and Peter Garrett running the farm.”
