$50,000 boost for dairy producers in Wide Bay
30th October, 2007
The Australian Government is providing $50,900 to the Wide Bay-Burnett Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation District Council to encourage networking and engagement across the dairy industry supply chain.Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today the funding will be used in Wide Bay-Burnett and Central Queensland to better identify opportunities for reducing the impact of drought on dairyfarmers businesses.
“It has been a tough few years across the Wide Bay Burnett due to not only the drought but also rising grain prices and production costs,” Mr Truss said.
“This programme will help dairyfarmers in the region to find the most sustainable way forward for their businesses.”
Mr Truss said the funding was part of 47 grants of up to $55,000 supplied to Australia’s farming, fishing and forestry industries through the Government’s new Advancing Agriculture Fund (AgFund) to help farmers tackle industry issues at the local level.
AgFund is part of the Government’s Agriculture - Advancing Australia (AAA) package which is designed to help the farm sector respond to changing business and operating conditions. This year’s Budget provided AAA with $254.7 million over the next four years.
