Aged Care Places for Noosa Shire

21st December, 2007

Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss has welcomed the allocation of 127 new aged care places for the Noosa Shire.

Mr Truss said the Australian Government will fund sixty new high care places and sixty new low care places at the proposed RSL War Veterans facility at Cooroy. In addition, two new high care places and five low care places will be provided at the Blue Care facility at Sunrise Beach.

Mr Truss said these extra places will provide a major boost to aged care services in the region and help to reduce the waiting list for aged care in the region. The places are a part of the previous Coalition Government’s commitment to massively increase the supply of aged care facilities throughout Australia.

A total of 6,525 new residential aged care beds worth $233.3 million a year in recurrent funding have been allocated across Australia in this round to provide care for frail older Australians.

Of the 6,525 places allocated, there are 4,415 high care and 2,110 low care places.

A summary of the new residential aged care places and capital grant allocations can be found on the Department of Health and Ageing website at www.health.gov.au/acar2007.
