Tewantin State School Canteen Open for Students
6th March, 2008
Students at Tewantin State School can now enjoy refreshments from their refurbished school canteen.
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Leader of The Nationals, Warren Truss officially opened the new canteen, which was made possible through a $107,481 grant from the former Coalition Government.
Mr Truss said, “The canteen at Tewantin State School required upgrading. The school developed an application for funding from the Coalition Government’s Investing In Our Schools program which was successful and now the school has a new canteen for all to enjoy.
“I congratulate the efforts of all those involved in the project for making it happen.
“It is often the case that Schools’ Parents and Citizens committees and volunteers have to work hard to raise funds to improve school facilities to provide students with a more comfortable learning environment.
“The Investing In Our Schools program made it a little bit easier for schools by providing direct funding to upgrade and install new school facilities that might otherwise not have been supported by Education Queensland,” Mr Truss said.
“Sadly, the Rudd Labor Government has abolished the Investing In Our Schools program which means that good projects like the Tewantin State School canteen upgrade will not be funded by the Federal Government in the future. This means that the burden of additional fundraising will fall on Parents and Citizens committees and volunteers.”
“I am pleased that students and teachers will enjoy the benefits that the new canteen will bring them."
