More Home and Community Care Funding for South Burnett

21st July, 2008
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss today welcomed the announcement of a funding boost for the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program providers in the South Burnett.

"HACC services enable frail aged people and young people with disabilities to remain in their own homes with the support of their family," Mr Truss said.

"We know the majority of people prefer to continue living in their own homes, and HACC services can provide people with that option and give them a higher level of independence.”

Two HACC providers in the South Burnett have been allocated $578,700 in extra funding, including:

· South Burnett Community Integrated Transport Service $19,000 to construct a four bay garage; and $7,000 to air-condition offices; and

· Blue Care Murgon $450,000 to construct a new Centre Based Day Care Centre; $13,500 to install a new telephone and emergency call system as well as curtains and blinds; $31,800 for office equipment and furnishings; $2,700 for wheelchair and activity equipment; $4,500 for two wheelchair carriers and three lightweight wheelchairs; $31,500 for a new vehicle to assist clients in remote areas; $18,700 for a vehicle to provide social support.

“This funding will assist these organizations in the delivery of services which maintain and improve the quality of life for older and disabled Australians.”
