Release dam report now says Truss

29th August, 2008
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, has called on the Queensland Government to immediately release the Supplementary Environmental Impact Statement into the proposed Traveston Crossing dam.

The document has been made available to State and Local Government agencies for comment on a confidential basis.

“What does the Government have to hide? This document affects the future of the whole region.

“Every Mary River community must be provided with the opportunity to read the suplementary statement and make their own submissions,” Mr Truss said

“It’s not good enough that only a privileged few have access to the supplementary report, which could seal the fate of a pristine river environment, threaten the existence of already endangered species, and decimate local fish habitats.

“It’s time the State Labor Government ended the secrecy and made all information available to allow everyone sufficient opportunity to make their own comments.”
