Ted Sorensen, LNP candidate for Hervey Bay
20th October, 2008
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Leader of The Nationals, Warren Truss, has congratulated Ted Sorensen on his selection to contest the Seat of Hervey Bay for the LNP at the next state election.Mr Truss said Ted is a strong candidate with a high local profile, having served the community as a Hervey Bay City Councillor since 1994 and as Mayor from 2000, until the creation of the Fraser Coast Regional Council earlier this year.
“Ted is a well known, local champion. He understands the needs of our community and will fight to move Hervey Bay forward,” Mr Truss said.
“Ted has a proven track record, having worked with other levels of Government, the local business community and local service organizations to grow Hervey Bay.
“Unfortunately, the one piece in the jigsaw that has been missing is the state Member. Hervey Bay has not had someone to stand up for them with Andrew McNamara.
“Mr McNamara has sold Hervey Bay out through his support of the Traveston Crossing dam. His unwillingness to stand up for Hervey Bay to build and improve local services, roads and community infrastructure has cost us dearly.
“Andrew McNamara has been a number for Labor in Brisbane, not a voice for Hervey Bay in the Queensland Parliament. He has been Brisbane’s voice in Hervey Bay, not Hervey Bay’s voice in Brisbane.”
“Labor has failed on health, roads, water, education, population and infrastructure planning. In every key area of state Government activity, the Labor Government has created crises that have hurt Queensland.
“At the local level, people are angry that they are still waiting for Labor’s local election commitments, promised two years ago, to be delivered. It is only now that we are less than 12 months away from an election that some projects have begun.
“Labor’s failure to deliver is a betrayal of voters’ trust. It demonstrates that the Labor Party has taken the community for granted. People now want a credible and capable alternative.”
Mr Truss said Ted and the LNP are determined to put Hervey Bay first.
“Hervey Bay is a must win Seat for the LNP. If we do not win Hervey Bay, we do not win Government in Queensland.
“We are determined that Hervey Bay will get the representation it deserves. We will not allow the Labor Party to take it for granted any longer.”
