Free internet kiosks for seniors now open

8th September, 2009
Free computer training and internet access for people aged 50 and over is now available at a number of locations in the Wide Bay electorate, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

“Information about consumer, commercial, government and community services is increasingly being delivered on line, so it is important that people have access to the internet and know how to use it,” Mr Truss said.

The Broadband for Seniors program will provide people in Pomona, Gympie and Tiaro with the skills they need to use the internet through free training. Computers will also be made available for community use.

“The internet is an important means of communication, helping people to stay in touch. The Broadband for Seniors program will help family and friends to connect on line.

“I encourage other local community organisations to help older Australians go on line by joining in the delivery of the Broadband for Seniors program.”

Information is available from www.necseniors.net.au or by telephoning 1300 795 897.

Broadband for Seniors is available at:
• Pomona Community House, 1 Memorial Ave, Pomona
• Fancy That Op Shop, 204 Mary Street Gympie
• Tiaro District Community Centre, Forgan Tce, Tiaro
