95 volunteer organisations to receive grants

22nd December, 2009
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has released details of grants to be made to 95 local organisations from the Volunteer Grants Program.

“Nearly $300,000 will be provided to 95 community organisations in the Wide Bay electorate to help them purchase vital, practical pieces of equipment to help them in their work in the community,” Mr Truss said.

“The Volunteers Grants Program is an Australian Government initiative which for a decade has been supporting local communities by helping volunteers to help others.

“The grants increase the capacity of volunteer organisations to help their communities by making their work a little bit easier.

“This funding continues the highly popular Volunteer Small Equipment Grants program, which recognised the work of volunteer organisations, allowing them to purchase equipment to make their work easier, safer and more enjoyable,” Mr Truss said.

“Volunteers undertake a range of activities and perform a wide variety of tasks, making an enormous difference to the lives of countless Australians.

“Volunteers freely give of their time, expertise and resources to help others in the community, so it is important that the Federal Government continue to support their work through the Volunteers Grants Program.”

“I congratulate the volunteer organisations on the success of their applications and thank all volunteers for their efforts in making their communities better, and wish them all a very happy Christmas.”
