Wide Bay volunteers recognised - Volunteer Week

7th May, 2010
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss today praised local volunteers for the outstanding contribution they make to their communities.

“Volunteers perform a range of important work by caring for others and providing a range of community services, making an enormous difference to the wellbeing of countless Australians,” Mr Truss said.

“If you know of a volunteer who deserves special recognition, please contact me and I will arrange for the volunteer to receive a national certificate recognising their efforts.

“Volunteers share their skills in emergency services, sport and recreation, education and training, health care, heritage and arts, environment conservation, religious and welfare organisations, to improve local communities.”

Volunteers in Wide Bay make valuable contributions to our community every day through their activities, which will again be recognised in National Volunteer Week, 10 — 16 May 2010.

National Volunteer Week provides a special opportunity to pay tribute to volunteers who give generously of their time and energy to benefit others and their communities.

The 2010 National Volunteer Week theme, “Volunteering: Now, more than ever promotes the value of volunteering.

“Every volunteer’s contribution, no matter how big or small, is extraordinary because that person cares enough to serve their community and give of their time, expertise and resources freely to improve the lives of others. Our communities would not be the same without them.”

National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to thank, recognise and show our appreciation and support to more than five million Australian volunteers for their sacrifices and hard work.
