A fair share for Wide Bay

17th July, 2010
The election on August 21 will give the electors of Wide Bay a clear choice between a Labor Government that is out of its depth, or a Coalition Government that will take real action to improve the lives of all Australians, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

“The coming election offers the people of Wide Bay an opportunity to vote for competence over incompetence, strong economic management over reckless spending and waste, consistency and credibility over spin and broken promises,” Mr Truss said.

“It is also an opportunity to vote for a fair share of federal funding to improve local hospitals, fix the highway, improve telecommunications in Wide Bay, protect and preserve the environment, and take real action on climate change.

“In contrast, Labor wants to move forward into more debt, more reckless spending and higher taxes, adding to the cost of living.

“In recent months the Coalition has outlined a positive agenda that has included new funding for regional education, mental health, defence force pensions, roads and bridges.

“We want to create more jobs, opportunity and prosperity, to build the infrastructure we need and deserve, provide better health and education, and to enhance our quality of life.

“And most importantly, we will not rely on giant new taxes on regional businesses that savage jobs and investment to do it.

“We are determined to get government spending under control, and have your money spent on worthwhile projects that benefit you.

“We want a tax system that rewards hard work, not one that unfairly penalises those who work hard.

“We want world class education, secure borders, better regional health services, a compassionate welfare system that expects personal responsibility, a strong future for our farmers and other primary industries, vibrant small business, a sustainable population and a better environment and quality, affordable telecommunications,” Mr Truss said.

“I expect this to be a difficult and closely contested election campaign. I have never taken for granted the responsibility and trust that the electors of Wide Bay have placed in me. I am committed to doing all I can to provide strong and effective representation to get results for everyone in Wide Bay,” Mr Truss said.

“We live in a great part of Australia and I want to keep it that way. I will ensure our region has a strong voice when the important decisions are made.”
