$1,984,646 for emergency relief to help people in need

5th July, 2011
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss has advised that local community organisations will receive $1,984,646 over the next three years in Federal Government funding so they can assist people in need.

“The funding is provided under the Financial Management Program to assist community organisations to extend emergency relief to struggling families and pensioners,” Mr Truss said.

“The funding is used to provide food or petrol vouchers, household goods, or part payment of essential household bills to people in need. It is also used to help people learn how to budget and deliver financial counseling.

“Costs of living have spiraled out of control since Labor was elected and pensioners, the unemployed and people on low and fixed incomes are finding it increasingly hard to make ends meet.

“Emergency relief assistance is vital to ensure that struggling households have access to the basic necessities to help them through difficult times.”
