BEST Grants for Wide Bay Veterans
22nd July, 2011
The local vetean community will have continuing access to the help and resources they need after Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss released the details of the latest Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) grants.Mr Truss said more than $19,200 in BEST grants will be made available to 5 organisations in the region.
“The grants will support ex-service organisations to fund staff and other resources they need to provide quality services and advice to the veteran community,” Mr Truss said.
“Ex-service organisations facilitate much needed assistance to veterans, war widows and widowers, current and former Defence members and their dependants when lodging claims with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs or pursuing an appeal,” Mr Truss said.
Funding for the BEST program was reduced significantly in this year’s Federal Budget as Government claimed there has been a reduction in the number of claims by Veterans.
“I congratulate the organisations on their successful applications.”
