Veteran & Community Grant for Legacy Club of Fraser Coast and Country Burnett Inc
14th September, 2011
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, has advised of $5,926 in Federal Government funding to the Legacy Club of Fraser Coast and Country Burnett Inc, under the Veteran and Community Grants program.“The Legacy Club of Fraser Coast and Country Burnett Inc will receive $5,926 to purchase computer hardware and software, two office chairs, a filing cabinet, and to assist in the production of a newsletter,” Mr Truss said.
The Veteran & Community Grants program aims to maintain and improve the independence and quality of life of members of the veteran community by providing financial assistance for activities, services and projects that sustain or enhance the well being of veterans.
However, the Gillard Labor Government has cut $8 million in funding from this program and the Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) program over the next four years.
“It appears that the Government would prefer to spend $25 million advertising Labor’s broken carbon tax promise instead of $8 million on supporting our veterans.
“I think the community would prefer to see veterans and their families supported under this program than watch Julia Gillard defend her broken promise to the Australian people in glossy pamphlets and television advertisements,” Mr Truss said.
“Australia’s veterans have served their country with pride and distinction, securing peace and freedom for our nation.
“Many veterans continue to help others and strengthen their communities. This grant is one way by which we show our respect for their service to our country and support their ongoing contributions within the community.
“The members of the Legacy Club of Fraser Coast and Country Burnett Inc are to be congratulated on the success of their application,” Mr Truss said.
