Rainbow Beach votes ‘no’ to street mail delivery service

5th October, 2011
An overwhelming majority of Rainbow Beach residents have voted against a move to establish a street mail delivery service for the town, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

“In a poll conducted by Australia Post, only 10 percent of the respondents said they wanted their mail to be delivered to their street address,” Mr Truss said.

“Australia Post conducted the poll in response to a request from some residents to establish a street mail delivery service for Rainbow Beach residents.”

The poll asked Rainbow Beach residents if they wanted a street mail delivery service to be established or if they wanted the current arrangements to continue.

More than 50 percent of households must indicate that they want their mail to be delivered to their street address before Australia Post will introduce the service.

Mr Truss said many people in small towns enjoy visiting their post office and they are keen to ensure it remains economically viable.

“Rainbow Beach residents will continue to collect their mail from their post office box or over the counter at the Rainbow Beach Post Office,” Mr Truss said.
