Truss thanks Wide Bay’s Carers - Carers Week 2011
11th October, 2011
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, today thanked local carers for the valuable contributions they make to the lives of the people that they help and support. “Carers Week 2011 provides the community with an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for the work that carers perform and the personal sacrifices they make to improve the lives of others,” Mr Truss said.
Carers Week 2011 is being held between Sunday 16 October and Saturday 22 October. The 2011 Carer’s Week theme, “Anyone, Anytime can be a Carer” reflects the diversity of carers who come from all backgrounds and parts of Australia.
“Without the dedication of the many unpaid carers who provide support to family and friends who are frail, sick, disabled, or suffer from a chronic condition or mental illness, many Australians would not be able to continue living in their homes or participate in social activities,” Mr Truss said.
“Carers strengthen families and reinforce friendships and help to grow stronger communities. They are often available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide care, love and support to family and friends in need.”
Carers Week celebrates the contribution that carers make in their community by encouraging people to show their appreciation through a simple act of kindness by doing something special for a carer you know.
“I encourage everyone who knows a carer to spend some time with their friend, neighbour or colleague, in recognition and appreciation of the vital contribution that they make to the community.”
