Applications open for Volunteer Grants 2012

12th June, 2012
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss has invited local volunteer groups to apply for funding from the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants program.

“Volunteers make a significant social and economic contribution to local communities and improve the lives of countless Australians,” Mr Truss said.

“This grants program supports the work of volunteers and encourages volunteering, allowing organisations to purchase equipment, making volunteers’ work easier, safer and more enjoyable.”

The Volunteer Grants Program provides grants of between $1,000 to $5,000 to eligible not-for-profit organisations to:
• purchase small equipment to help volunteers help their communities;
• contribute towards volunteers’ fuel costs incurred in their volunteering work, including using their cars to transport others to activities, delivering food and assisting people in need;
• assist with the reimbursement of transport costs for volunteers with a disability or who are unable to drive; and
• contribute towards the costs of training courses for volunteers and/or undertaking background screening checks for volunteers.

Information on the 2012 Volunteer Grants program and an online application form can be found at http://www.fahcsia.gov.au/sa/volunteers/funding/Pages/volunteer_grants2012.aspx.

Paper‐based application forms are also available by calling 1800 183 374 or by emailing vg2012@fahcsia.gov.au.

Applications close on 25 July 2012 at 5pm AEST.

“Volunteers perform a range of important work, caring for others and delivering a variety of community services, making an enormous difference to the wellbeing of countless Australians.

“Every volunteer’s contribution, no matter how big or small, is extraordinary because that person cares enough to serve their community and give of their time, expertise and resources freely to improve the lives of others. Our communities would not be the same without them.”

“If you know of a volunteer who deserves special recognition, please contact me and I will arrange for the volunteer to receive a special national certificate recognising their efforts.”
