$99,245 for emergency relief to help people in need
12th December, 2012
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss has advised that Community Action Inc based in Gympie, will receive $99,245 in Federal Government funding so it can assist people in need. Cooloola Community Action was formed last year in a collaborative merger between Community Action Housing Service, Community Action Youth Service and Erin House.
“The funding is provided under the Financial Management Program to assist community organisations to extend emergency relief to struggling families and pensioners,” Mr Truss said.
“The funding is used to provide food, clothing, transport and assistance with accommodation. It can also be used to help people learn how to budget and deliver financial counseling.
“Costs of living have spiraled out of control lately and pensioners, the unemployed and people on low and fixed incomes are suffering from financial stress and find it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.
“Emergency relief assistance is vital to ensure that struggling households have access to the basic necessities to help them through difficult times.”
