LNP fast-tracks Cooroy to Curra Section A

18th December, 2012
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has welcomed the announcement of Commonwealth and State funding to enable the commencement of the long awaited Section A of the Cooroy to Curra four-laning upgrade of the Bruce Highway.

The project will complete the missing link of the four-laning, including the Cooroy bypass and Black Mountain section, at a total cost of almost $800 million.

Today’s announcement is the first project to be funded from the Newman LNP Government’s promise to provide $1 billion extra in funding for the Bruce Highway.

In July a number of State Members of Parliament accompanied a convoy of Federal LNP Members, who travelled the length of the Bruce Highway to draw attention to the need to Fix the Bruce.

The former Labor government had been reluctant to fund any work on the Bruce Highway and I welcome the vision of the Can Do LNP Government to fast-track this project.

This section of the highway is used by more than 20,000 vehicles each day and has been the site of many fatal accidents. The project is the next step in delivering a 110km road all the way to Gympie.

I have fought hard together with local communities to secure extra funding for projects to complete the Cooroy to Curra section. This commitment will be welcomed by everyone who wants a safer and more efficient highway.

At last the Federal Government has restored the money it took away from the Cooroy to Curra section in the 2011 Budget.

The Federal Liberal and National Party government will give a high priority to completing the Cooroy to Curra four laning and to other upgrade projects on the Bruce Highway.
