Help BlazeAid help flood damaged farms
25th February, 2013
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, has called for volunteers to assist the BlazeAid Flood Recovery operations in the Wide Bay Burnett region.Mr Truss said BlazeAid has promptly responded to the needs of farm communities in flood affected areas to help with rebuilding and now needs volunteers to support their reconstruction projects.
Local volunteers are required to join volunteers who have come from all over Australia to assist in rebuilding farm fences and repairing damage to onfarm infrastructure.
BlazeAid is a national organisation of volunteers which is currently undertaking reconstruction in fourteen locations affected by flooding and fires in 2013.
Some of the volunteers who have already come to this region have supported BlazeAid projects in other parts of Australia in the past and see their reward in helping distressed farm families recovering from natural disaster.
The volunteers work alongside rural families and farmers to help communities become productive once more. Mr Truss said whether people volunteer for a few hours or a few weeks, their efforts will be greatly appreciated.
BlazeAid has set up camps for volunteers in Murgon, Mundubbera, Monto and other places. In some locations, free accommodation is available and farmers provide meals and materials for the workers on their properties.
Volunteers can register with BlazeAid on 0429 381 448 or register on line at emergencyvolunteering.com.au or phoning Volunteering Queensland on 1800 994 100.
Mr Truss said many local farmers have seen their properties devastated by the recent flooding and BlazeAid can make a real difference in lifting local spirits and making farms productive once again.
