Cherbourg to receive $8,500 NAIDOC funding

Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss has advised that the Cherbourg Historical Precinct Group and the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council will receive funding under the Australian Government’s National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Public Awareness Program.

“The Public Awareness Program provides financial assistance to organsiations to deliver activities that promote understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture,” Mr Truss said.

“The Cherbourg Historical Precinct Group will receive $5,500 to support the NAIDOC open day for the Cherbourg Community.

“Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council will receive $3,000 for the official opening of the Yurri Muntha Café and presentation of community awards on 9 July 2013.

“I encourage everyone to support community events as part of NAIDOC week which runs from 7 to 14 July 2013.”
