Additional aged care places for Wide Bay

15th July, 2013
Federal Member for Wide Bay has welcomes the announcement of new aged care places for the region.

“An additional 29 aged care places have been allocated to service providers within the Wide Bay electorate under the latest Aged Care Approvals Round,” Mr Truss said.

“Ny-Ku Byun at Cherbourg has been allocated five new high care places and Cooinda Aged Care Centre at Gympie has been allocated 24 high care places. The total value of the places is $1,863,511.

“Cooinda Aged Care Centre will also benefit from a $5 million zero real interest loan to help build its new facilities.”

Mr Truss said the Federal Labor Government needs to take action to ensure that the aged care sector remains viable.

“In previous funding rounds, there has been a difference between the number of beds allocated and the number actually delivered by service providers.

“Many applicants have found they simply were not able to afford to build the places that they were allocated,” Mr Truss said.

“The demand for aged care beds is only going to rise, so the Government needs to do more to help providers now, to avoid an aged care crisis in the future.”
