Saluting Their Service grant for HMAS Quiberon Reunion Committee
26th July, 2013
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, has been advised of a $1,750 Federal Government grant to the HMAS Quiberon Association, which will be used towards hosting a memorial service and reunion dinner, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first commissioning of HMAS Quiberon.“HMAS Quiberon was first commissioned in late 1942, it was one of two Q Class Destroyers commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy,” Mr Truss said.
“HMAS Quiberon’s later service included with the Far East Strategic Reserve and it was the last Australian war ship to sail up the Mekong River in Vietnam, in support of Army training in 1962-63.
“I congratulate the HMAS Quiberon Reunion Committee on the success of their application, which will bring together former crew members for this special occasion.
“The Saluting Their Service program encourages community participation in commemorative activities which honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served Australia in wars, conflicts and peace operations.
“This project will help to commemorate the vital contributions made by those who served on HMAS Quiberon and I am pleased that the Commonwealth has been able to provide funding towards the cost of the memorial service and commemorative dinner.”
The dinner will be held at the Hervey Bay Boat Club on 24 August 2013.
