Mrs Daphne Ohl — National Volunteer Awards 2013

24th September, 2013
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss, today presented a certificate of appreciation to Maryborough volunteer, Mrs Daphne Ohl, in recognition of her many years of service to the community.

“Daphne continues to be an active volunteer in the Maryborough community, having fulfilled many roles over the last 65 years,” Mr Truss said.

“Daphne and her husband, Bill, have been active in Rotary and Innerwheel, where Daphne has held a number of executive positions. Daphne has also been involved with Probus where she has served in leadership roles, and she is also a Patron of the Tinana Hockey Club.

“Daphne is not afraid of hard work and at 86 years of age she is always amongst the first to put her hand up to help a person or an organization in need.”

“I am pleased to be able to recognize Daphne’s efforts through the National Volunteer Awards.”

Mr Truss said Wide Bay relies heavily on the contribution of volunteers.

“Volunteers contribute by sharing their skills and knowledge to strengthen the community in areas like community welfare, emergency services, sport, and environmental conservation.

“Their efforts often go unrecognised, but our community would not be the same without the work they do,” Mr Truss said.

“Volunteering can be extremely rewarding and I encourage everyone in Wide Bay to think about ways in which they can help to strengthen their community by becoming a volunteer.

“If you know of a volunteer who deserves special recognition, please contact me and I will arrange for the volunteer to receive a special national certificate recognising their efforts,” Mr Truss said.

“On behalf of our community I thank Daphne Ohl for her dedicated service and wish her well for the years ahead.”
