16th September, 2014
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss, today announced that the Federal Government will provide up to $150,000 in funding for lighting upgrades at the Maryborough & District Hockey grounds.“This funding fulfils my election commitment to upgrade Maryborough’s Hockey Grounds lighting to Australian Standards,” Mr Truss said.
“These improvements will support local hockey players and other sporting teams, by allowing members from lower divisions to train under lights, so that they may improve their skills and ability to compete.
“In addition to hockey, other sports will also benefit from this commitment, including Sunbury Soccer and Oz Tag Teams.”
Mr Truss said Maryborough has a proud history of producing elite hockey professionals.
“Hockey has a very strong following in Maryborough and six Olympic hockey players have come from Maryborough.
“I hope that this funding will help to promote interest in hockey by providing more opportunities for players to improve their skills, and allow Maryborough to continue its strong tradition of supplying world class athletes,” Mr Truss said.
The grant is provided under the Federal Government’s Community Development Grants Programme.
