Truss announces funding for expanded CCTV coverage in Noosa

17th September, 2014
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss today announced that $117,400 will be provided under the Federal Government’s Safer Streets Programme to the Noosa Shire Council.

“The Coalition Government will fund the installation of local CCTV camera surveillance and improved lighting at the Transit Centre at Noosa Junction,” Mr Truss said.

“The Transit Centre is a hub of activity within the Noosa community and I am pleased to deliver on my election commitment to make Noosa safer.

“The CCTV network helps people to feel safer and more secure in their neighbourhoods. Whether people are going about their business, shopping, out to dinner with friends or enjoying a night out, CCTV cameras provide an additional layer of security to help protect and improve the safety of our community.

“The presence of CCTV cameras also provides a deterrent to those who might consider breaking the law. Potential offenders will think twice about possible criminal behaviour if their chances of being caught on camera are high.

“The Safer Streets Programme builds on the former Coalition Government’s National Community Crime Prevention Programme, which was a popular grassroots initiative that delivered better protection to local communities. The previous Labor Government scrapped this initiative, which was a real blow to community safety,” Mr Truss said.

“The Federal Coalition Government is delivering on its commitments to take real and practical action to prevent crime and improve the safety of our local communities.”
