Cooroy interchange construction works may result in delays

19th September, 2014
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss has advised that Bruce Highway upgrades around the Cooroy southern interchange will begin soon, to facilitate construction of the Cooroy bypass duplication.

“From late September 2014, the reconstruction of the existing northbound carriageway of the Cooroy interchange will commence as part of the Cooroy to Curra upgrades of the Bruce Highway,” Mr Truss said.

“In order to safely accommodate the road works, northbound traffic will merge to a single lane one kilometre south of the existing merge point. The existing extra lane for the southbound on-ramp will be changed to become a standard highway on-ramp merge.

“In late October northbound traffic will temporarily shift to sharing the southbound lanes, resulting in single north and southbound lanes separated by temporary barriers. These traffic switches are expected to be in place until early 2015.

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, reduced speeds, traffic control and signage will be used to direct motorists for the duration of the construction works.

“While efforts are being made to minimize the impact of the road works, motorists may wish to consider adding some extra time to their journey should any delays arise.

“I thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the construction period,” Mr Truss said.

The works are joint-funded by the Federal and State Governments, as part of the Cooroy-to-Curra upgrade of the Bruce Highway.
