Possible Highway delays between Cooroy southern interchange and Sankeys Road
7th October, 2014
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss has advised that road works will be carried out at several sites on the Bruce Highway, between the Cooroy southern interchange and Sankeys Road, over the first two weeks of October. “Between 6 and 13 October 2014, the Bruce Highway will close from South of Black Mountain Range Road, through to Elm Street in Cooroy, for short periods of up to five minutes. This will allow trees to be removed so that further works can be safely carried out,” Mr Truss said.
“Night works will be undertaken in the same area to install concrete barriers, from 12 October 2014. The works will be carried out between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday, and will take around two weeks to complete.
“On October 7 and 8, the Cooroy southbound off-ramp of the highway will be closed at night, in order to safely install concrete barriers in the median area. Motorists may be asked to use the Black Mountain or Eumundi Exits, while the works are carried out,” Mr Truss said.
“As part of works for the new Cooroy northern interchange, vegetation clearing will proceed over the next four weeks on the eastern side of the highway, between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys road and major construction works should begin on the interchange around mid-October 2014.
To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, reduced speeds, traffic control, detours and signage will be used to direct motorists for the duration of the construction works.
“While efforts are being made to minimize the impact of these road works, motorists may wish to consider adding some extra time to their journey, or the use of alternate routes, to allow for delays that may arise.
“I thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the construction period,” Mr Truss said.
The works are joint-funded by the Federal and State Governments, as part of contracts 2 and 3, within Section A of the Cooroy-to-Curra upgrade of the Bruce Highway.
