First funding round launched for 20 Million Trees programme in Wide Bay

11th October, 2014
The Australian Government is inviting communities in Wide Bay to get involved in the 20 Million Trees Programme, with the first competitive grants round now open for applications, Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said today.

“I encourage communities, groups and individuals around Wide Bay to put forward their proposals for funding under the 20 Million Trees programme, which offers grants between $20,000 and $100,000 to help set up projects,” Mr Truss said.

“The 20 Million Trees Programme will invest $50 million over the next four years to re-establish Australia’s green corridors and urban forests, as part of the Federal Government’s National Landcare Programme,” Mr Truss said.

“Funding can be used by schools, local councils, conservation groups and landholders to re-establish native vegetation, and create greener spaces that benefit local communities while providing improved habitat for local threatened species.

“Projects can be undertaken on public and private land, if there is evidence that the projects will create improvements for communities and the local environment.

“The 20 Million Trees programme is part of $2 billion in funding for natural resource management, which will be made available by the Federal Government over the next four years,” Mr Truss said.

Applications for projects are now open and will close on 30 October 2014.
