Goomboorian Preschool selected to participate in cutting edge language trial
11th November, 2014
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced today that the Goomboorian Playalong Activity Centre has been selected as one of forty locations across Australia, which will participate in an upcoming second language trial for preschoolers. “I am pleased to announce that The Goomboorian Playalong Activity Centre will be participating in the Federal Government’s $9.8 million Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) trial, which aims to foster an interest in language studies among preschool age children, which may be built upon in later years of schooling,” Mr Truss said.
“There were more than 1100 organisations that applied for the forty available locations in this trial, and this illustrates the significance of this initiative, which will put Goomboorian at the national forefront of research into childhood education.”
The Goomboorian Playalong Activity Centre will use play-based apps, focussing on one of five languages, including Mandarin, Japanese, Indonesian, Arabic or French. The final language allocation will be confirmed prior to the start of the trial next year.
The 2015 ELLA trial will involve eight other sites across Queensland and including various preschool models, from government-run, to community-based and long day care centres.
