Imbil bridge reconstruction may result in delays

19th November, 2014
The construction of a new bridge in Imbil is set to begin soon, as part of ongoing flood-reconstruction works scheduled for the Wide Bay region, says Federal Member for Wide Bay and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss.

“From early December, construction work will begin on a new concrete bridge on the Derrier Road crossing at Yabba Creek, near Imbil. The new bridge is scheduled for completion by April 2015, and will replace the existing timber bridge, which sustained damage during flooding in 2013,” Mr Truss said.

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, reduced speeds, traffic control, detours and signage will be used to direct motorists for the duration of the construction works.

“While efforts are being made to minimize the impact of these road works, motorists may wish to consider adding some extra time to their journey, or the use of alternate routes, to allow for delays that may arise.

“I thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the construction period,”
Mr Truss said.

The bridge upgrades are funded under the Natural Disaster Recovery and Relief Arrangements (NDRRA), with up to 75 per cent of the project cost covered by the Federal Government and the remaining cost funded by Gympie Regional Council.
