Flood repair works underway on Kin Kin road

27th November, 2014
Road reconstruction work has begun to repair flood-damaged sections of Kin Kin Road, Federal Member for Wide Bay and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said today.

“Road reconstruction works are underway along Kin Kin road, north of Murrays Road and are expected to be completed by late February 2015. The work will involve piling and concreting works to repair and stabilise the road, which was damaged by heavy rainfall during 2013,” Mr Truss said.

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, reduced speeds and single laning of the road will be in place for the duration of the construction works.

“While efforts are being made to minimize the impact of these road works, motorists may wish to consider adding some extra time to their journey, or the use of alternate routes, to allow for delays that may arise. I thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the construction period,” Mr Truss said.

From early December 2014, additional pavement and road surfacing will be carried out about 1 kilometre north of Kin Kin. Works will be carried out up to seven days a week between 7 am and 6 pm and some lane closures will be required.

The reconstruction works are being funded under the Natural Disaster Recovery and Relief Arrangements (NDRRA), with up to 75 per cent of the project cost covered by the Federal Government and the remaining cost funded by the Queensland State Government.
