Federal funding grant helps Gympie school build new facilities

28th November, 2014
Victory College in Gympie will receive $370,000 from the Federal Coalition Government’s Capital Grants program to assist with the construction of extra facilities for students, Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said today.

“A grant of $205,000 will help fund a new Home Economics and Hospitality Centre for Victory College. The funding will be used to construct cooking, preparation, storage and wash up areas, an office and verandah, and provide equipment and furniture for the facility. An existing home economics room will be converted to a secondary classroom,” Mr Truss said.

“The College will also receive $165,000 for two new primary classrooms, two withdrawal rooms, two outdoor learning spaces, a staff room and a verandah. The grant will also be used for site works, equipment and furniture for these facilities.”

The Australian Government’s Capital Grants Programme provides facilities to support the learning of educationally disadvantaged students and provide infrastructure for non-government schools that find it difficult to self-fund.

“While buildings alone do not make a school, the Government recognises that better facilities for students are a critical part of equipping students with the skills necessary to secure their success in later life,” Mr Truss said.

“I am committed to ensuring that all schools in Wide Bay have the facilities to support students’ needs and I am pleased that this funding reflects that commitment.”
