Bruce Highway upgrades continue between Cooroy and Federal

22nd December, 2014
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Warren Truss, has today advised motorists that roadworks will continue on sections of the Bruce Highway over the next month.

While the Cooroy to Curra construction site is scheduled to close over the Christmas period (December 20 to January 4), there may still be some activity in the area.

“Due to the movement of construction equipment needed for the Cooroy to Curra upgrades, there may be some lane closures on the Bruce Highway, between just south of Black Mountain Range Road and Elm Street in Cooroy,” Mr Truss said.

“The new bridge between the Cooroy northern interchange and Skyring Creek Road is nearing completion, with construction of the bridge expected to finish by the end of the year, if weather conditions are favourable.

“Work is also continuing on asphalt-laying works for the northbound lanes of the Highway, between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road.

“Construction has also begun on new 3m high noise barriers, near the Cudgerie Arch (Elm St tunnel). The barriers will extend 400m north of the tunnel, on the western side of the Bruce Highway and are expected to be completed by early 2015.”

To ensure the safety of motorists and road workers, traffic signals, traffic controllers, lane closures and speed restrictions will be used as required.

“While efforts will be made to minimize the impact of the road works, I encourage motorists to consider adding some extra time to their journey, to allow for any delays.

“I thank motorists for their patience and cooperation during the construction period,” Mr Truss said.
