Christmas greetings from Warren Truss
23rd December, 2014
Christmas is a very special time of the year when many travel long distances to be with family and friends to celebrate the year that has passed and plan for the year ahead. The significance of Christmas extends beyond the revelry of the social functions, or even the attractive lights and special gifts. We should not forget that these things are symbols of the deeper meaning of Christmas and reflect the joyous origins of our festivities.
At the heart of Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who brought love, salvation and the message of peace and goodwill to all.
How well the happy Christmas message reaches out in our society depends on our willingness to extend a helping hand and offer a caring heart.
In the true spirit of Christmas, it is important that we remember those people in our community who are less fortunate than ourselves - the homeless, the jobless, the sick, and those spending Christmas alone - and consider whether there may be something we can do to help them.
This year we are mindful of farming families and rural communities, who continue to battle the hardships of drought with great fortitude and courage.
We think of those who must work this Christmas – to keep our community safe and secure, in our hospitals and aged care facilities.
If you are driving, please be cautious and courteous.
Lyn and I extend our very best wishes for a happy and safe Christmas season and a successful 2015. May everyone enjoy this time of giving and sharing with their loved ones, family and friends.
