BEST grants ensure continued advocacy for Wide Bay Veterans

2nd July, 2015

Veterans in the Wide Bay region will have continuing access to help and advocacy after Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced funding for three local ex-service organisations.

“Local ex-service organisations in Wide Bay will receive $61,462 under the Federal Government’s Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) program, to provide pension and welfare officers, who can advise and advocate on behalf of veterans and their families,” Mr Truss said.

“The provision of appropriate advice that takes into consideration individual circumstances of veterans and their families is an important part of looking after our local ex-service men and women.

“These services help to ensure that veterans and their family members - who may be seeking compensation or financial support - have access to every available avenue for assistance.”

Organisations to receive BEST grants in Wide Bay:

Cooroy Pomona RSL Sub-branch: $17,500
Legacy Club of Fraser Coast and Country Burnett Inc: $25,903
Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub branch: $18,059
TOTAL: $61,462

“At the last election the Government promised to restore BEST funding to 2010 levels. In line with this commitment, the Government has again provided an additional $1 million in funding for BEST this year, bringing the total funding for this round to $3.778 million,” Mr Truss said.

“I congratulate these three local ex-service organisations on their successful applications for funding under the BEST program.”
