Gympie Men’s Shed receives $5,000 Federal Government grant
14th August, 2015
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss today announced that the Gympie Men’s Shed will receive $5,000 in funding for new equipment under Round Ten of the Federal Government’s National Shed Development Program.
“Gympie Men’s Shed will use the grant to purchase new tools including a tablesaw, dust extractors, routers and radial arm saws,” Mr Truss said.
“Gympie Men’s Shed provides a valuable community space for recreation, socialising and the sharing of knowledge and common interests within the Gympie community.
“Men’s Sheds play an important role in reducing social isolation, strengthening communities and improving mental health, particularly among retired and older men.”
“I congratulate the Gympie Men’s Shed on their successful application.”
The National Shed Development Programme is administered by the Australian Men’s Shed Association and is aimed at promoting learning and the sharing of information, including health information.
Under the Programme, Men’s Sheds in Australia can apply for funding of up to $8,000, with priority given to sheds in rural and remote areas and areas of disadvantage.
