NBN rolling out in Tinana

31st August, 2015

Around 290 premises in Tinana are closer to gaining access to the National Broadband Network, with construction of the fixed wireless network now underway at Tinana, east of the Maryborough Bruce Highway interchange, Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced today.

“Once completed, this tower will vastly improve the reliability and speed of broadband services available to Tinana,” Mr Truss said.

“The NBN’s fixed wireless network utilizes advanced 4G technology to provide internet speeds of around 25mbps download and 5mbps upload - fast enough for local users to stream multiple high definition videos simultaneously.

“Once operational, wireless broadband speeds at Tinana will be comparable to high-end ADSL2+ services available in metropolitan areas of Queensland.”

Under the Coalition Government, NBN Co has increased the reach of its fixed wireless network, by 400 percent - now covering more than 273,000 premises nationwide.

Total active connections to the NBN’s various networks, including the fixed line and wireless networks and the interim satellite service now stand at 536,000 while over 1.2 million premises have services available.

Late last year NBN Co released a national rollout plan indicating that by mid-2016 one in every three homes and businesses across Australia will be able to connect to the NBN or have construction underway in their neighbourhoods.

“The rollout of the NBN to communities like Maryborough demonstrates the Coalition Government’s commitment to prioritise broadband upgrades in rural and regional areas with the poorest coverage,” Mr Truss said.

“The Coalition Government is serious about delivering its commitment to bring the NBN rollout back on track and provide better, faster and cheaper broadband for regional Australians.”

The NBN will update residents when construction has been completed and services become available.
