Federal funding guarantee provides certainty for Wide Bay Men’s Sheds
9th September, 2015
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss today said that Men’s Sheds in Wide Bay will have more opportunities to secure funding from the Federal Government.
“Round 11 of the National Shed Development Programme (NSDP) is currently open and Men’s Sheds in Wide Bay can apply for up to $8,000,” Mr Truss said.
Applications for funding under round 11 close on September 18.
“Men’s Sheds in communities across Wide Bay play a very important role keeping men active and contributing to their mental health and physical wellbeing.
“To provide certainty, the Coalition Government has guaranteed funding for Men’s Sheds for a further three years, through to 2019.
“This funding allows Men’s Sheds to maintain their shed, buy new tools or start new projects. It’s great news for Men’s Sheds in communities across Wide Bay and the men who use them.”
The $4.5 million commitment will also assist the Australian Men’s Sheds Association to more effectively reach and engage men.
Mr Truss said Men’s Sheds help to combat social isolation, particularly amongst older men living in rural, regional and remote areas.
Applications for grants are assessed by the Australian Men’s Shed Association, in accordance with guidelines agreed by the Department of Health.
Grants are awarded on a competitive basis up to $8,000 (GST exclusive), with priority given to sheds in disadvantaged areas.
