Fixed wireless NBN switched on for communities in Noosa
10th September, 2015
More than 660 premises in the Noosa area can now access the National Broadband Network for the first time.
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced today that new fixed wireless NBN towers have been switched on at Kin Kin, Boreen Point and Boreen Point North, delivering vast improvements in the reliability and speed of broadband services.
“The NBN’s fixed wireless network utilizes advanced 4G technology to provide internet speeds of up to 50 mbps download, and 5mbps upload - fast enough for local users to stream multiple high definition videos simultaneously.
“The wireless broadband speeds being delivered to Kin Kin and Boreen Point are comparable to high-end ADSL2+ services available in metropolitan areas of Queensland.”
Community serviced/ Number of premises serviced
Boreen Point: 332
Boreen Point North: 60
Kin Kin: 272
Total premises: 664
Since the election of a Coalition Government, the fixed wireless network has grown exponentially, now reaching more than 280,000 homes and business in rural and regional Australia compared to just 39,000 premises in September 2013.
The Coalition Government’s multi-technology approach to the NBN rollout will save up to $30 billion and will see upgrades delivered six years sooner than under Labor, while avoiding increases of up to 80 per cent in internet retail bills.
“The rollout of the NBN to communities like Kin Kin and Boreen Point demonstrates the Coalition Government’s commitment to prioritise broadband upgrades in rural and regional areas with the poorest coverage,” Mr Truss said.
“The Coalition Government is serious about delivering its commitment to bring the NBN rollout back on track and provide better, faster and cheaper broadband for regional Australians.”
