Contribution of Noosa Green Army participants recognised

20th October, 2015

Young people involved in a Noosa Green Army team have been presented with certificates recognizing their contributions to land management and conservation in the local region.

The Green Army team worked in collaboration with Noosa council, local bushland care volunteer groups and shorebird survey volunteers to manage weed threats from bushland reserves and improve the coastal habitats of native wildlife species.

Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss provided the project participants with certificates recognizing their efforts.

“I would like to acknowledge the dedication and teamwork of these Green Army participants, and indeed all Green Army participants in the Noosa region, who are making a real difference to the environmental health of our local region,” Mr Truss said.

“I also wish to thank the service provider, Manpower Group, as well as the project sponsor, Noosa Council, for their roles in facilitating this terrific project.

“Through this project, these Green Army participants have not only delivered environmental and conservation benefits for our community, but have also gained valuable practical training and experience to help them prepare for the workforce, pursue further training or improve their career opportunities.”

“I wish these project participants the very best in their future endeavours.

“I would encourage any young people in our local region who are interested in helping the environment and gaining new skills to consider participating in Green Army projects,” Mr Truss said.

The Programme encourages practical action to support local environmental projects, and prepare young Australians for the workforce, with training provided to up to 15,000 young Australians by 2018.

The Green Army is a key Government commitment with more than $700 million budgeted over four years.
