$325,000 Federal grant delivers expansion for Brolga Theatre

7th December, 2015
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss today announced that Maryborough’s Brolga Theatre will receive $325,000 under the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF) to boost its conference facilities.

“The grant will extend the Brolga Theatre complex to include a new all-weather, flexible space,” Mr Truss said.

“The new facilities will help the theatre attract larger functions and an even greater variety of public events, to boost the local economy and make Maryborough an even more attractive place to live.

“The Brolga Theatre is an outstanding facility that has delivered great cultural and economic benefits for Maryborough. It has hosted famous bands, comedians and speakers, and over recent years has even allowed us to witness performances which would previously have required hours of travel to attend, such as Queensland ballet performances streamed directly from Brisbane’s Q-PAC.

“While the theatre has a marvellous view overlooking the Mary River, up until now the limited outdoor space has made it more difficult to host outdoor events, which can be affected by poor weather conditions. This new expansion will help eliminate that issue and will stimulate the economy of the local region by attracting a more diverse range of events and activities to the theatre complex,” Mr Truss said.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has committed $335,000 towards the$660,000 project and will be responsible for project management and supervision of the works.

The National Stronger Regions Fund is delivering $1 billion over five years to promote economic growth and address disadvantage in Australia’s regions.

More information on the National Stronger Regions Fund, including a full list of successful Round Two projects and details on the application process, is available online at www.infrastructure.gov.au/nsrf.
