The Busy Group to help fight youth unemployment in Wide Bay

18th February, 2016

Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has today announced that a new youth employment organisation will be funded in the local region, under round 2 of the Coalition Government’s Transition to Work programme.

The Transition to Work programme is a $322 million commitment by the Federal Government to help young people aged 15-21 to become work ready or find their way back to education.

“These new local services, delivered through the Busy Group Ltd, will provide extra support for job seekers in Wide Bay and will help to combat the scourge of youth unemployment in our region,” Mr Truss said.

“The Transition to Work service is an important initiative, especially for the many regional parts of the country which have traditionally had issues with high rates of youth unemployment.

“We know that initiatives like the Transition to Work programme are important, as the evidence shows us that the longer a young person remains unemployed after leaving school, the more likely it is that they risk becoming long-term unemployed.”

“This funding will allow young job-seekers to receive intensive one-on-one support from local, community-based organisations that are experienced in working with young people facing barriers to entry into the workforce.”

Services funded in Wide Bay under round 2 of the Transition to Work programme are:

Organisation, Address, Region
THE BUSY GROUP LTD, 206 Mary Street,Gympie
THE BUSY GROUP LTD, 32 Mary Street, Noosaville
THE BUSY GROUP LTD, 107 Boat Harbour Drive, Hervey Bay (servicing Maryborough)

“The Coalition Government is focused on giving young Australians facing difficulties with entering the workforce the skills, confidence and preparation they need to find gainful employment,” Mr Truss said.

“Young people are the future of our country and we need to ensure we have effective programmes in place, to help those people at risk of long-term welfare dependency to find stable employment.”
