16th March, 2016
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss, today announced that Gympie & District Landcare Group Inc will receive $8,753 to upgrade its nursery, under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP). “This grant will help the Gympie & District Landcare Group to replace and extend guttering and install an additional water storage tank,” Mr Truss said.
“The upgrades will enable the Group to improve water capture, recycling and storage at their nursery and biocontrol facility, providing water security through periods of less rainfall.
“The Gympie & District Landcare Group are an integral part of the community, working with council, landholders and other organisations to promote sustainable land use, erosion prevention, weed control and revegetation,” Mr Truss said.
The Stronger Communities Programme is a Federal Government initiative designed to increase the resilience of communities, especially those in disadvantaged rural and regional areas, by providing grants for small capital projects.
Local councils and incorporated not for profit organisations can apply for grants of between $5,000 and $20,000, with up to $150,000 available for each Federal electorate per year. Applications for the second round of the program are now open.
