Federal grant helps local shooting association upgrade foundations
6th April, 2016
The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia’s (SSAA) Fraser Coast Branch will receive $12,680 for much needed upgrades to infrastructure under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP), Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss announced today. “This grant will allow the organisation to replace the original covering on the firing line originally built as a temporary structure. The covering now leaks when it rains, turning the dirt floor to mud, Mr Truss said.
“The improvements will include concrete flooring, a retaining wall to ensure level ground, a rainwater tank and stair access, improving the capability of the facility to host Club, Zone, State and even future National Championship events.
“The SSAA’s Fraser Coast Branch is an active part of the community, working to promote community involvement in shooting sports and encouraging responsible firearm handling practices,” Mr Truss said.
The Stronger Communities Programme is a Federal Government initiative designed to increase the resilience of communities, especially those in disadvantaged rural and regional areas, by providing grants for small capital projects.
Local councils and incorporated not for profit organisations can apply for grants of between $5,000 and $20,000, with up to $150,000 available for each Federal electorate per year. Applications for the second round of the program have recently closed and are now being assessed.
