Federal grant helps St Vincent de Paul Gympie to improve accessibility
6th April, 2016
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss, announced today that St Vincent de Paul’s Gympie Food Division will receive $14,364 to upgrade its change rooms and front service counters, under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP). “This grant will help the organisation to demolish and rebuild the existing shop counter and change rooms, creating a wider aisle and additional space for wheel chair access, disabled persons and prams, Mr Truss said.
“The upgrades will improve the accessibility of the facility for customers, volunteers and those in need of assistance and provide more opportunities for community participation.
“The St Vincent de Paul Society plays an important role in the community, working to assist people in need regardless of disability, ethnicity or social background,” Mr Truss said.
The Stronger Communities Programme is a Federal Government initiative designed to increase the resilience of communities, especially those in disadvantaged areas, by providing grants for small capital projects.
Local councils and incorporated not for profit organisations can apply for grants of between $5,000 and $20,000, with up to $150,000 available for each Federal electorate per year. Applications for the second round of the program have recently closed and are now being assessed.
