Federal grant funds workshop fitout for iconic Woodworks Museum
8th April, 2016
The Woodworks Museum in Gympie will receive $10,725 for the electrical fitout of their workshop and storage shed, under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP), Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss announced today. “This grant will allow the organisation to install the underground power supply for lighting, power points and compressor airlines needed for the workshop and storage shed currently under construction, Mr Truss said.
“The new workshop will provide a considerable area for volunteers and ‘work for the dole’ participants to restore donated artefacts. The workshop also provides storage for artefacts on rotation for future exhibitions currently housed off site in temporary storage.
“All construction work to date has been carried out by volunteers, with donated materials, providing a fantastic opportunity for community participation.
“The Woodworks Museum and Interpretive Centre showcases beautifully restored relics of history, interpretive displays on the region’s forest industry and conducts live demonstrations that explain the role forestry plays in sustaining the community, employment, tourism and the environment,” Mr Truss said.

The Stronger Communities Programme is a Federal Government initiative designed to increase the resilience of communities, especially those in disadvantaged areas, by providing grants for small capital projects.
Local councils and incorporated not for profit organisations can apply for grants of between $5,000 and $20,000, with up to $150,000 available for each Federal electorate per year. Applications for the second round of the program have recently closed and are now being assessed.
